Valley of the Sun Cemetery was opened in 1963. At that time, the adjacent area was largely agricultural, with few homes nearby. The Sun Lakes Community was initiated nearby in the early 1970s and gradually the area around Valley of the Sun Cemetery has been built into a thriving community. To this day, Valley of the Sun is the only cemetery within the Chandler city limits.
Valley of the Sun erected the state’s largest sundial, which served as a beacon for the local airport. The sundial has always been a point of reference when locating the cemetery and is considered to be one of Chandler’s landmarks.
Valley of the Sun Mortuary opened in the early 1990s, and after years of consistent growth, a new mortuary was built and opened in 2004. We continue to serve the surrounding community with dignity and compassion.
